Steve Chatterton hopes to catch seafood lovers as sole trader
STEVE Chatterton hopes he has netted a gap in the market with his new company, Grimsby Seafood Ltd. Steve started his business out of a desire to give customers, particularly familes, a wider choice of high quality, frozen food delivered directly to the door.
Since leaving university, Steve has worked for a variety organisations in sales, spending a lot of time on the road, but yearned to dive back in to the fishing industry that was once the family business. After having the opportunity to support a friend and local fish merchant, he decided it was time to get back to his true calling. Inspired by a story he read in the local paper about an e-factor client who started a business, he picked up the phone to see if e-factor could help him become his own boss.
“Speaking to e-factor really made me focus on the figures and look at my business plan objectively, ” said Steve.
“The funding I received through e-factor helped tremendously from purchasing the freezer van all the way to implementing customer management software.”
Steve's business is now going from strength-to-strength through both telephone enquiries and via his website that showcases all of his produce including crab, lobster, shellfish and his ever popular fish steaks.
“Don't confuse this with what you buy at the supermarket,” he continued.
“Although we started with fish we have grown with our customers needs and now also supply a range of gourmet meat and vegetable products many with no artificial additives or ingredients.”
With the future for Grimsby Seafood looking bright, Steve hopes he can keep catching more customers and continue the family business for many years to come.
